I’ve posted about how to turn off HTC Sense on Windows Mobile devices in the past, this time I’m going to share the steps to turn off HTC Sense on your Android device. It’s a little more involved than on Windows Mobile devices, but still not too hard. HTC Sense brings a lot of nice features to the table, including 7 home screens to store all your widgets. The default Google home screen is limited to just 3 sections. So you might find the default home screen a little boring.

To disable Sense, open the application try and tap on Settings / Applications / Manage Applications. The browse through the list (it’s not sorted alphabetically) until you find HTC Sense. Tap on HTC Sense and you should be taken to a screen that shows all sorts of application information. Scroll down until you see a button labeled Clear Defaults in the Launch by Default section. Tap on Clear Defaults and it will remove the default setting to launch HTC Sense when the Home button is pressed. Then tap on the Home button on the front of your device and you will see a prompt appear asking which application the device should use for this task – Home or HTC Sense, tap on the Use by default for this action box and then tap on Home.

Welcome to the default home screen for Android! Once you get bored and are ready to return to the Sense experience, just follow the same settings as above, but select Home from the applications list instead of HTC Sense. So it would be: Settings / Applications / Manage Applications / Home / Clear Defaults followed by pressing the Home button. And now you’re back to the world of HTC Sense. Enjoy!

As my SMS’ing has increased over the last little while I’m getting more and more annoyed with the message sent notification that shows up on after sending a text message on a Windows Mobile Smartphone. Yes, I know that it will actually go away by itself if you leave it alone, but I’m a mover and shaker and I want move along to another task. Having that message pop up is just annoying. So, without further ado, here’s the registry hack you’ll need to do in order to stop that message from showing. This should work on pretty much any Windows Mobile Standard / Smartphone (non-touch screen) device.

First thing is to fire up your favorite registry editor. Your phone doesn’t have one installed, so you’ll have to get one and install it first. I recommend PHM - it’s good and it’s free. In your registry editor, go to HKLM \ Software \ Microsoft \ Inbox. Create a new key with the name of Settings. Then select that key and create a new String value (you should now be under the new key Settings, that you just created) and set the name as SMSNoSentMsg and the value as 1 Reboot your phone and that’s it.
