Finally An Excellent Twitter Client for Windows Mobile – Pocketwit

Reviews Written by: Mike Temporale on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 1:30pm

I’ve talked in the past about how there are no good Twitter clients for Windows Mobile, especially on the Standard or Non-Touch Screen devices. That’s all changed thanks to Pocketwit. This is hands down, the best Twitter client I have seen. The user interface is unique and stylish, yet still very easy to use. It fully supports both touch screen and non-touch screen devices. And while those things are nice, it’s just the tip of what makes Pocketwit such a great Twitter client. When you post a reply or an update, Pocketwith will automatically grab your GPS co-ordinates and update your location information to reflect that. As well, it fully supports TwitPic allowing you to either include an existing image or snap a quick shot with the camera while typing up your post.

If that wasn’t enough, Pocketwit will automatically check for updates on startup and ask you if you want to download and install them. I’ve been running Pocketwit for a couple weeks now, and I’ve seen 4 or 5 updates in that timeframe that add new features and fix the odd bug too. My point is this, the guys behind Pocketwit are working hard at updating and improving this app. Which hopefully means that this is only going to get better as time goes by. Pocketwit also has support for multiple Twitter or identi.ca accounts. This is great for those of you that are managing a personal twitter account along with a company or blog account.

The screen shot above shows Pocketwit in the main reading window, the white arrow on the right hand side is an indicator of where I am in the stream of tweets. I’ve changed the default colors to show the red background. You can also pick from blue, green, etc… The red kind of matches my BlackJack II, and since it’s the holidays, I figure why not. ;) When you press the left or right soft-keys, or cursor to the left or right, the conversation panel will slide to the side and the menu will slide in. The left and right menus are displayed below.

No product is perfect, we all know that. So what’s wrong or missing in Pocketwit? Well, my first beef is with the menus. It would be nice if they were mapped to numeric values. This would allow faster and easier navigation. It’s not a big thing, but it sure would be nice. I have one other minor issue, and that’s with the names of items in the menu. To post a status update to Twitter, you need to select Set Status. There are a couple other places where this pops up. Again, it’s nothing critical, but it would make using the application a little easier for those that have just installed and are learning their way around.

The single best thing of all of this, is that Pocketwit is free. So go download a copy and give it a try. Let us know what you think and let the developer know as well. It can only make for a better product in the end.

    you also can have 2 twitter accounts and select to which you want to post as well, without logging out.

    I fully agree. I have been running it for around two weeks, and it made me leave all other twitter mobile clients.

    Great software!

    Unfortunately pretty unstable. Version 64 and 65 are unuseable.

    @RamblinSydRumpo – Really? I haven’t had any issues at all. I leave it running 24/7 and I haven’t had a single crash.

    What kind of device do you have? and what other applications are you running? Perhaps there is another application that is creating a conflict between the two programs.

    PockeTwit has come a long way since the 0.65 days. I’ve posted my thoughts on the newer version over here:

    And you can read about some other Windows Mobile Twitter clients here (with more coming soon):

    Can I use Pocketwit on a Samsung Rant phone?

    Thanks

    @Damon – The Samsung Rant is not running Windows Mobile operating system. PockeTwit is a Windows Mobile based application. Sorry.

    This is one of the best things that happened to my HTC Touch, together with SPB Mobile Shell 3.0. I’ve been tweeting non-stop.:D Thanks a lot to the developers of Pocketwit.
