Rounding out the week, Rogers and CIBC celebrated the first mobile NFC based payment in Canada. Simon Whitfield, the Olympic triathlon super champion, joined Rogers and CIBC to make the first mobile payment a reality, at a truly Canadian location – Tim Horton’s. Starting on November 16th, the CIBC Mobile Payment app will be available for BlackBerry 9900′s and 9360′s. Starting in early 2013, there will be a Windows Phone 8 and an Android version of the app made available.

There are a number of retailers that are ready to start accepting mobile payments today, including: McDonalds, Subway, Second Cup, Swiss Chalet, Shoppers Drugmart, and of course, Tim Horton’s. Basically, any location that currently accepts VISA payWave or MasterCard PayPass will also support Rogers SureTap.
If you’re looking to learn more about SureTap, you can visit Rogers.com/SureTap. If you have a BlackBerry 9900 or 9360 and want to get started with mobile payments, look for the CIBC Mobile Payment app in the BlackBerry App World. And if you’re powered by Windows Phone or Android, then hold tight and the app will be available early next year.
