Microsoft’s Pop-Up Stores To Begin Selling Surface RT on October 26

Details are still pretty hard to come by, but we do know that Microsoft plans on selling their new Surface RT tablets starting on October 26, the day after launch. You can stop by any Microsoft Store, or if there isn’t one in your area, then look for the closest “pop-up” store. Microsoft is launching a number of these pop-up stores in malls to help kick off the sale of their new Surface tablet this holiday season.

The Microsoft store in Canada won’t be opening until the middle of November. Don’t let that stop you from grabbing a Surface on launch day, as there will be 4 pop-up stores across the country – Toronto’s Eaton Center, Edmonton’s West Edmonton Mall, Burnaby’s Metropolis at Metrotown, and Vancouver’s Oakridge Center.

Pricing is still up in the air, but it’s expected to start at $399 and that’s keyboard included. I would guess that the 64GB version will sell for $499, but we won’t know for sure until October 25th when Microsoft launches Windows 8.

What we do know is that the RT version (which is the first version to go on sale), will have a weight of 676 grams. It will be just 9.3 mm thick, with a clear 10.6” ClearType HD screen. You will also get a MicroSD, USB 2.0, Micro HD Video, Office Home and Student 2013, Touch Cover, Type Cover, a case and a stand. We still don’t know for sure about battery life – although it’s expected to be more than 10 hours of use.

Of course, the real question is simple – are you willing to drop the cash on Microsoft’s brand new tablet offering? I’ve been using Windows 8 since it RTM’ed on August 15th, and it’s been a great experience. I’m looking forward to giving the RT tablet a run. :-)

A complete list of store locations for Canada and the US, can be found over on the Microsoft Store website.
