Samsung ATIV – Where Did That Name Come From, Anyway?

From the very first moment I saw Samsung’s new name brand for Windows Phone and Windows devices, I knew it wasn’t going to sit well with consumers. Almost instantly there was a influx of tweets as people tried to understand how to say it, and what it means. Galaxy and Focus – these brand names are clear and conjure up images of power and precision. But what does ATIV bring to mind?

According to our Samsung rep, ATIV is the reverse of VITA which means "Life" in Latin and this is Samsung’s pledge to "make everyone’s life extraordinary with excitement". Now that we know where it came from, it makes a little more sense and perhaps it’s not as bad as I first thought. I’ll welcome the extraordinary and excitement filled life.
