Samsung has released their latest smartphone for Canadians to enjoy. The Galaxy Rugby features a ruggedized, durable design, that is dustproof and waterproof, enabling active users to conduct business anytime, anywhere. The Rugby is submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes! The actual device specs are inline with an entry level Android phone. It features 320×480 resolution, 3 MP camera, 150 MB internal memory, MicroSD expansion slot for additional memory, Gorilla Glass, AMOLED Plus screen, and it’s powered by Android 2.3. The Rugby is IP67 certified – for those of us that are unfamiliar with the rating, it relates to the level of waterproof and dustproof that the phone supports.
I know more than a few people that have lost their smartphone to accidental water incidents. Having a phone that can take a splash or dunk is a huge selling point. And I will be letting those friends know about this option. Besides more memory and a larger screen, the biggest thing I would like to see on this is a drop rating. Waterproof and dustproof are huge, but if you’re heading down the rugged path, why not toss on a 3 foot drop to concrete.
