New Vonage Mobile App Provides Free Mobile to Mobile Calling

Perhaps there should be an asterisks beside Free in the title of this post. After all, nothing is really free, right? Vonage might just change that with this new app. Sure, it’s not all free and under some circumstances, you may be required to pay – more on that shortly, but you can place free VOIP calls from your mobile using the Vonage app, to a friend’s mobile, who is also running the mobile Vonage app.

There are costs here – when you choose to call someone that doesn’t have the Vonage app. The app recently launched on both the Android and iOS platforms. Hopefully they’ll be adding a Windows Phone version in the near future. :)

What’s Vonage offer over some of the other VOIP solutions? Well, the big feature I like is that it’s tied to your mobile number. So you don’t need a new phone number. When your friend installs the app, Vonage will recognize the number and flag them in your address book as a free Vonage to Vonage call. Plus, it ties into the notification systems on both Android and iOS, so you don’t have to be in the app to be notified of an incoming call. If you’re looking for more details, I should have a review posted in the coming week or so. Otherwise, head over to your marketplace and download the app and give it a whirl!
