Fido has launched the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro smartphone – the first carrier in the world to offer the Xperia Pro. Powered by Android 2.3, the Pro has a 3.7 inch screen, an 8.1 megapixel camera, HD video capture, HDMI output,a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 320MB ROM / 512MB RAM, and a side sliding keyboard. Fido has priced the Xperia Pro at just $50 with a 3 year contract, making it a very affordable device for those looking to pick one up.
Based on the price, the limited memory and 1 GHz processor, this is much more of a beginner Android device than the professional user device that the keyboard and name seem to imply. As I mentioned in my Xperia Play review, I think Sony Ericsson would have been better off to make the keyboard and game controller as snap off parts. This would allow the user to pick which mode they wanted. During the week snap on the QWERTY, and then on the weekend switch out to the controller.
Check out Fido’s web site for details on voice and data plans. As well, you can stop by any Fido store to get some hands on time with the device.
