There’s a lot of buzz around the internet today as word began to spread about Microsoft’s plans for May 24th. That’s the day that Microsoft will pull back the curtain and show off the next release of Windows Phone. If you followed the MIX11 event, you’ll already know a lot about what to expect, at least from a developer point of view. This, event sounds more like a general consumer event where they will show off the new features in the OS instead of how to leverage new APIs from your application.
Mango is not expected to be released to consumers until the fall of this year, at which point it will be labeled Windows Phone 7.5 and include things like fast application switching, new live tiles with enhanced push notifications, improved marketplace search, and full messenger integration into the people hub. Of course, we don’t know anything for sure at this point. We’ll just have to wait until May 24th and see exactly what Microsoft is planning.
