I have recently posted a new article about how to application unlock ANY Windows Mobile Standard device – including the Propel Pro. Use that process for application unlocking your device. Then you shouldn’t have any issues with editing the registry.

I have an AT&T Samsung Propel Pro i627. When I run the SDA Application unlock it tells me that the phone is not unlockable. When I try to change the registry settings, they don’t take, they just go back to the original values.

Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Mike, that worked like a charm on the Blackjack II. I never thought to look there! My wife will be happy (and that means I will be happy too!)

I can’t seem to find the setting to “automatically detect network settings” on the Tilt though. It’s not in PIE or GPRS settings.

@Rick76 – if the phone and email are working fine on the tilt, then it seems like a bad proxy or network setting. Check the settings in IE Mobile and make sure it’s set to automatically detect network settings.

On the BlackJack II, open IE Mobile and hit Menu / Tools / Options / Connections and be sure to click on the Automatically Detect Network Settings. And change the selected network from WAP to Internet. That should to the trick.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I did not try these on the Tilt, just to mention I had a similar problem. The phone and email work on the Tilt, just no internet and I purchased it unlocked from a dealer in Montreal so I don’t have the unlock code.

Regarding the Blackjack II, I found your updated post regarding changing the settings in the UAMgr file on the device itself, which seems to have worked to a point. By changing one setting, I can either access email or the internet but not both at the same time. I have outlined my current problem over on HoFo under the title BAAAD WM6.1 in the Windows Mobile Standard section (if you get a chance).

I’m not sure if you recall but we met at a ONPPC meeting in Toronto about 3 years ago. Love your site. Keep up the good work.

@Rick76 – The above applications are for Smartphone (non-touch screen) devices and would not work on the Tilt. Pocket Controller excluded. It sounds like the ROM you have flashed to your device reactivated the SIM lock on your device. If you have the unlock code from before, you should be able to use it.

As for the BlackJack II, the above steps will solve your problems for application lock. SIM is a different story.

For whatever reason, none of the above programs would install via Active Sync. When the “Programs to Install” box popped up, none of them were listed. So now I am in deep do do.

I upgraded my AT&T Tilt to WM 6.1 and now I can’t get it working (it was working fine on Rogers before the ROM update). And, I just bought my wife an AT&T Blackjack II with WM 6.1, assuming “unlocked” meant fully unlocked, not just SIM unlocked.

Mike, do you know anyone in the Toronto area that can get these working on Rogers for me. I’m not looking for a “freebie”, just someone reputable.

great minds think alike: I already installed Opera Mobile 9.5 beta and it works fine both on WiFi and GPRS.
I’ll wait with the unlocking of IE Mobile browser. I wish one of those browsers will be as useful as the iPhone browser…
